Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has announced that the County Government of Lamu is developing its own scholarship programme aimed at supporting bright and deserving students from vulnerable backgrounds.
Governor Timamy spoke during the awarding of scholarships under the KCB Foundation 2026 Senior School Scholarship Programme at the Lamu County Headquarters on Monday.
He said the initiative seeks to ensure that no child is denied education due to lack of school fees.
“Our focus is to ensure that no child is denied an education due to lack of school fees. Education is the foundation of sustainable development,” the Governor said.
He noted that the planned county scholarship programme will address inequalities in access to secondary and tertiary education, particularly among learners from disadvantaged households.
During the ceremony, Governor Timamy awarded 10 scholarships to students from Lamu County who qualified on merit after attaining the required academic thresholds and successfully completing a competitive interview process conducted by the KCB Foundation.
The Governor lauded the KCB Foundation for its sustained investment in education, describing the programme as a strong partnership in nurturing the future of learners in the county.
He urged other institutions and stakeholders to emulate KCB’s commitment by supporting education initiatives, reiterating that education remains a top priority for his administration.
The KCB Foundation delegation was led by Lamu Branch Manager Raphael Njombo, who thanked the County Government for its support and collaboration in promoting access to quality education.
Njombo reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to empowering communities through education and skills development.
The KCB Foundation Senior School Scholarship Programme targets bright but needy students across the country, enabling them to access secondary education and unlock future opportunities.
For over 18 years, the KCB Scholars Programme has supported underprivileged learners to access quality education and build better futures.
